WAZZUP?! The Scary Movie 6 Cast Hotboxed Times Square and the Internet Cannot Cope 👻💨

Paramount dropped a giant glass hotbox in the middle of Times Square for Scary Movie 6 — Ghostface, Anna Faris, and the Wayans brothers sat inside it, watched the original film, and shouted WAZZUP at tourists. Critics gave it 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. The promo already won.

Tourists walking through Times Square earlier this week encountered something that broke their brains: a massive transparent glass box sitting in the middle of one of the busiest intersections on Earth. Inside it? Anna Faris. The Wayans brothers. Ghostface. Smoke billowing everywhere.
This was the Scary Movie 6 promotional stunt nobody saw coming — and it immediately became the most chaotic, beautiful thing online.

What actually happened

Paramount dropped a giant glass hotbox in the middle of Times Square to promote Scary Movie 6: The Last Scream, which hits theaters today (June 5). The cast — Anna Faris, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, and Regina Hall — sat inside the smoke-filled structure watching the original 2000 Scary Movie while Ghostface ran up to the glass walls shouting "WAZZUP?!" at confused passersby.
Crowds immediately gathered. Phones went up. Clips hit Instagram and TikTok within minutes. 1
For a few hours, one of the most recognizable intersections in the world felt less like 2026 and more like the inside of your friend's older brother's basement circa 2002.

The meme recreation was also a thing

Separate from the Times Square event, the cast shot a promo reel recreating some of the franchise's most iconic viral memes — the scenes that lived in everyone's group chats and AIM away statuses for years. They did the WAZZUP. They did the Ghostface shriek call. 2
The Hook posted it on TikTok and Instagram asking "which one wins?" — and the comments are absolute chaos. 3

The reviews, though... 💀

Here's the beautiful irony: critics are torching the actual movie.
"A catastrophic misfire that manages to undermine everything that once made this film series successful. This isn't merely a bad comedy. It's a painfully unfunny, creatively bankrupt and genuinely exhausting experience." — HeyUGuys
19% on Rotten Tomatoes from 21 reviews. Variety called it "so meta it's meh." The Hollywood Reporter said it "generates barely a trickle" of laughs. 4
And yet — nobody online seems to care. The hotbox stunt has more heat than any review.

Why the internet is winning here

The promo instinctively understood something critics might have missed: Scary Movie was never really about the movie. It was about the meme-ability. The quoteability. Ghostface screaming WAZZUP in Drew Barrymore's face while she gets stabbed. Anna Faris doing the dumbest possible thing in any given situation.
The glass hotbox is just that, physically manifested. No deep brand message. No cinematic universe tease. Just chaos, nostalgia, and Ghostface yelling at tourists who have no idea what's happening.
The franchise came back 26 years after the original. Whether the movie lands doesn't fully matter. The promo already won.

Scary Movie 6 is in theaters now.
